Barnbougle Castle is set on the banks of the Firth of Forth in a very commanding and dominating position overlooking Edinburgh and Fife, it really is stunning. Ideal for a wedding. I mean, you get a whole castle to yourselves! This is exactly what Kristy and Calum did and amazing memories were made.
From Kristy getting ready on the top floor in the bedroom which belonged to Hannah de Rothschild, wife of the 5th Earl of Rosebery, to the impressive stone staircase swooping and spiralling down 2 floors to the Scottish Library where the ceremony took place. As you would expect the room was wall to wall of books – old books! It was just beautiful. Everywhere you looked there were antiques including boxes which belonged to Queen Victoria, gifted to the Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery (who was also Prime Minister for a bit too!) See? So much history to this venue it blows my mind!
The ceremony was conducted by a family member which made it even more meaningful. The Library full of family and friends gazed on as candles were lit, knots were bound and and tied and vows exchanged.
Being on the ground floor, after the ceremony everyone was piped outside onto the Terrace for some fizz and mingling, whilst taking in the most stunning view across the water.
Photos were taken, hugs were given, good conversation was had by all and before we all knew it, it was time to head inside for the speeches and the most delicious meal, prepared by the most brilliant and talented caterers Wilde Thyme (they do the BEST food!)
The speeches were very funny, a great double act with props had me and everyone else laughing. Of course gifts and flowers were handed out which was a lovely touch.
After the meal, most guest congregated on the Terrace again to watch the sun setting over the Forth and some relaxed in one of the many libraries within the castle. Honestly, every room is just so beautiful and well cared for.
Dancing! Oh yes! As the evening guests arrived, the band warmed up and I set up my lights ready for the action and I was not disappointed! It was a great mix of popular songs combined with a few sets of ceilidh dances – lots of fun! The band were fantastic too – highly recommended! (See end of this blog for all supplier details)
Finally, there were fireworks. And sparklers.
Being from Queensferry I normally on get to hear the fireworks but this night, I got to see them and they were brilliant! 21CC really are top professionals for all things whizz and bang!
It really was a perfect day – everything went to plan – everything! It was a total joy and pleasure photographing this special wedding, one I will never forget.
